Kelvin Gastelum TKO’d Vitor Belfort with Punches at 3:52 of the 1st round.
Gastelum blasted through the aged and PED ravaged body of Belfort like he was made of paper. The crowd roared when Vitor threw his quick combinations early, but nothing landed and it was all bluster. Kelvin took his time and then a right hook followed by a straight left floored Belfort for the 2nd time and that was enough for the referee to halt the bout.
MMAFO always loves to see fraud Vitor exposed and he has promised to retire after 1 more fight. Good riddance.
Gastelum is looking solid under King's MMA guidance but he still needs to work on his physique, not for beach muscles, but to eliminate fat and add power where needed. Still, if he stays at 185, the future looks bright.
* Kelvin should face Krzysztof Jotko or the suddenly beloved Daniel Kelly next to continue his rise.
Mauricio Rua TKO’d Gian Villante via Punch Combination at 0:59 of the 3rd round.
MMAFO would like to send a special "thank you" to Gian for refusing to train cardio, ignoring all instructions from his corner, and showing zero head movement while engaging in a striking war with a legendary veteran. The hapless Villante decided to go toe to toe with "Shogun" and paid for it as Rua mixed up his assault with vicious body shots, blisteringly fast combinations, and head movement (head movement Gian!).
"Shogun" has now won 3 bouts in a row amassing the winning streak for the 1st time since way back in 2006! Not that Rua is going to make a title run or anything, but it's great to see a "Pride Never Die!" fighter still making noise, especially after all the injuries he has fought through.
Edson Barboza KO’d Beneil Dariush by Flying Knee at 3:35 of the 2nd round.
Jesus fucking Christ that was a blitzing flying knee from out of nowhere! Beneil was following a smart game plan and doing well until Barboza uncorked a murderous strike that eliminate Dariush from reality. Shit that was nasty! "KO of the Night"
Ray Borg defeated Jussier da Silva by Unanimous Decision (29-28 3x).
Borg is really establishing himself as a Flyweight contender and homie is only 23! "Formiga" had his moments and he's not easy out for anybody, but the night was Rays and he would not be denied. Pretty good scrap. "Fight of the Night"
Bethe Correia versus Marion Reneau was ruled a Majority Draw (27-29, 28-28 2x).
Well this was god awful. The 1st 2 rounds were atrocious and it wasn't until the final round when Reneau rocked Correia with a head kick. Marion was unable to get he finish but the comeback was enough to turn a loss into a draw. Moral victory.
Alex Oliveira submitted Tim Means by Rear Naked Choke at 2:38 of the 2nd round.
Fuuuuuuuck this guy! Oliveira continues his descent into a true piece of shit kicking at Means well after the bell before he got the fight ending tap. We just can't discuss this bout as enraged we are at this unprofessional asshole. Let's move on.
Kevin Lee tapped Francisco Trinaldo with a Rear Naked Choke at 3:12 of the 2nd round.
Mr. Lee flipped off the Brazilian crowd at the weigh-ins and then backed up his bravado encasing Trinaldo in a body lock before getting the choke. The guy is a prick but he's also very good and fast becoming a "must-see" fighter. "Submission of the Night"
Francisco has now snapped his 9 fight winning streak but he can still get back into the hunt though the clock is ticking at his age.
Sergio Moraes defeated Davi Ramos by Unanimous Decision (30-27 3x).
Ugh, this was painful to watch as well. Moving on...
Joe Soto defeated Rani Yahya by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-27 2x).
Poor Yahya. The guy tried to be a kickboxer coming out with a reckless fury of punches and kicks, and promptly gassed himself out for it. An accidental headbutt opened a faucet of blood on Soto's head but he managed to control himself and the tide then turned as he faced an exhausted opponent.
Why, why, does Rani never have any endurance?!
Michel Prazeres submitted Josh Burkman via North-South Choke at 1:42 of the opening round.
Bwahahahahahahahahaha! Oh, we're still laughing at this one. Burkman went out and shit the bed yet again and though it was reported he is retiring, he's actually just done in the UFC and still planning to fight in the minors.
Jeremy Kennedy defeated Rony Bezerra by Unanimous Decision (29-28 2x, 29-27).
Okay Kennedy, we see you. Young Jeremy out grappled "Jason" but he had to earn it. Jeremy might want to work on that striking some more but he's very young and better than we expected.
Paulo Costa TKO’d Garreth McLellan via Punches at 1:17 of the initial round.
Paulo looks like a mini-prime-Alistair Overeem and fought like it as well. "Borrachinha" just unloaded on poor McLellan destroying him easily. Something tells us he would not be able to go at that pace for longer than 2 more minutes but the plan worked today.
