UFC on Fox 30 & Rizin 11: The Important Results!

Takanori Gomi KO’d Melvin Guillard with a Punches at 2:33 of the very 1st round to show us a final glimpse of “The Fireball Kid!”

Did ya’ll forget who the fuck Takanori Gomi is? MMAFO never doubted, not for a damn moment. “The Fireball Kid” turned back the clock for perhaps the last time as he limped around on a bad right leg, which at one point completely gave out, but Gomi refused to say die in Japan landing the bomb he is known for and flat lining Guillard. Couldn’t have happened to a better guy on both accounts.

The legend of Takanori Gomi shines in the land of the rising sun one last time! Congratulations on an amazing career legend!

Jose Aldo TKO’d Jeremy Stephens with a murderous body shot at 4:19 of the opening round.

The greatest Featherweight of all time returned to form unleashing a body shot that had Stephens shitting himself before he crumbled to the ground. The fact that Jeremy argued about the stoppage is a testament to what a piece of shit he truly is but the moment is about “Scarface.” Aldo had nothing but doubters going into another 145 bout when we all know he would be better suited up a division. However, with the pressure piling on, Jose showed a fellow striker who to do real work. Aldo was ecstatic after the win weeping with joy. The man deserved all the cheers and he ain’t done yet.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk defeated Tecia Torres by Unanimous Decision (30-27 3x).

Joanna “Violence” basically cruised to a much needed win in her quest to reclaim her crown. MMAFO has been big fans of hers for a long time but this refusing to pay the proper respect to Rose Namajunas has got to go. It’s a bad/sad look and Joanna is capable of so much more. Still, a solid win.

Dustin Poirier TKO’d Eddie Alvarez with Strikes at 4:05 of the 2nd round it another controversial war!

Does anybody know what the fuck is going on in the head of Eddie Alvarez? In the 1st meeting, Ed delivered numerous, obviously illegal knees causing an end to the fight. The 2nd time around, Alvarez delivered an illegal 12 to 6 elbow, gouged the ear of Poirier, and grabbed the fence to save him from a big takedown. Then post fight, Eddie had the audacity to tell Dustin he only won because of the stand up after the illegal elbow.

Poirier won (twice really) because he has an understanding of the rules and is the better fighter. We’ve always been big fans of Alvarez but he’s really trying to make the world hate him.

Dustin Ortiz KO’d Matheus Nicolau via Head Kick from Hell at 3:49 of the opening stanza.

This was a nice win for yet another deserving veteran. Ortiz resume is nothing but the best in the game and it was nice to see “the hardest working man in the biz” get a highlight reel finish. Shades of “Cro Cop” out there as Dustin murdered poor Matheus!

Kyoji Horiguchi defeated Hiromasa Ogikubo by  Unanimous Decision.

The 2nd best Flyweight in the world was taken to task by a very game Ogikubo in their 2nd tilt. A nice outing for both men and Rizin is going to struggle bringing in viable contenders for Kyoji as he continues to disperse the free agents at 125.

Ion Cutelaba TKO’d Gadzhimurad Antigulov via Punches & Elbows at 4:25 of round 1.

We likes us some Ion “Cannon” but slow your roll kid. Cutelaba used his moment to call out Champ Champ Daniel Cormier who was commentating cageside. Ion is nowhere near a title shot at this point, but he then put on Bret “The Hitman” Hart shades and proclaimed himself, “The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be!” With an homage to Calgary’s own favorite son (& MMAFO’s favorite wrestler of all time!), we’re not mad atcha. In fact, Cutelaba just went up to “our guy” status.

Jiri Prochazka, Jordan Mein, Kanna Asakura, Hakeem Dawodu, and Islam Makhachev all got wins that help to elevate their young careers.

Veteran Jordan Mein put in intelligent work for his win and John Makdesi defeated Ross Pearson in a bloody affair. MMAFO has long championed good guy Pearson, but at this point, we have to bow out and say that Ross needs to retire. He's just gotten too slow over the years with all the damage he has accrued and we cannot witness him taking such massive amounts of damage anymore. Love ya Ross, but it's getting a little scary.

As mentioned before, "the excellence of execution," Bret Hart watched the UFC cageside and got the proper ecstatic ovation from his home Calgary crowd which was wonderful to see.
