UFC 227 Dillashaw vs. Garbrandt 2: Fight Card, Pcks, Half-Assed Musings, + Odds

August 4, 2018
Staples Center
Los Angeles, Calif.

Main Card on Pay-Per-View (9pm/CT):

Bantamweight Champion TJ Dillashaw (16-3) -125 vs. #2 Cody Garbrandt (11-1) +105 [Rematch]

A question around this return bout has been, why aren't people more interested in this affair after such an exciting 1st meeting? The answer is, because both of these bickering children are dumb cunts. This is a battle of two absolute morons who think they are smart, and only reveal how small minded and petulant they really are. We get it already. He left your camp, you hate him, he's a jerk, bla, bla, bla. The story is past old just fight already.

TJ got rocked 1st in their last fight but battled back to knockout Cody neck tatts. Perhaps that was the MMA Gods punishing Garbrandt for releasing practice footage of himself dropping Dillashaw for a moment. Tsk, tsk, tsk. What happens in the gym, stays in the gym. Anywho, "Killashaw" is still with love interest Duane Ludwig at The Treigning Lab (such a stupid name) and still has some of the best footwork in the game. TJ moves in and out confusing foes and dropping back in with devastating effect.

Garbrandt's past tweets where he uses the "N-word" (without the "hard R" mind you) liberally, just shows what an idiot he is. Cody wants so bad to be cool it's just embarrassing. If he'd just focus on what he's good at, punching, he'd be better off. Garbrandt had Dillashaw badly rocked last time, but the bell rang allowing TJ to meander back to his corner and comeback to win in the 2nd round. It was the Team Alpha Male's 1st professional loss and he's pretended to be more humble this time around, so perhaps a lesson was learned. Cody has crazy power sure, but it's his speed that seems to shock opponents and get him the wins.

Either guy could win this, but based upon how goddamn dumb Cody is with his wittle baby arms, he'll do something to ruin it. MMAFO is hoping for that rare double-knockout, but let's just have a good scrap and don't interview either guy post fight. Then, "Mighty Mouse" comes in to wreck the winner!

WINNER-TJ Dillashaw by Decision

Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson (27-2-1) -490 vs. #2 Henry Cejudo (12-2) +390 [Rematch]

"Mighty Mouse" is so damn good he went full video game character last out against Ray Borg, flipping him into the air and catching him on the way down for an armbar win. It was gorgeous! That'd be 13 wins in a row for the GOAT of MMA, who has the record for most consecutive title defenses at 11, and is 5 foot 3 inches of pure excellence. At this point, the guy is just looking for competition as he embarrasses the field.

"The Aztec Warrior" is feeling his game these days as he tests his omega waves, neuros, crystals, beads, and other bullshit hippy crap. Hey, whatever it takes to build confidence amirate? Olympic gold medalist Cejudo has won 2 in a row after losing to Demetrious Johnson and Joseph Benavidez, and now thinks he's king of the world. This guy has been delusional his entire career but again, you kind of need that bravado especially if you are wanting to compete with the GOAT.

"Mighty Mouse" showed who the man is on the feet in their 1st meeting, but don't forget that Cejudo was able to take him down early. The wrestling game of Henry is not to be slept upon but if you think Matt Hume and Johnson don't know this you are crazy beans. Cejudo is going to avoid the clinch this time around with all his being, but he won't eliminate the tactic of bringing the fight to "Mighty Johnson." This version of Henry may be the biggest threat to the Flyweight king to date, but let's not get it twisted. Until somebody unequivocally bests DJ and shows us he has a weakness, you gotta back Demetrious to find a way to win as he always does. We're talking about a champ that was dominating Kyoji Horiguchi, and in the final round went for, and got the submission win with but a second left on the clock. Prove him wrong.

WINNER-Demetrious Johnson by Decision

Thiago Santos (17-5) -345 vs. Kevin Holland (13-3) +285

"Marreta" is always a fun boxer, but at this point, we all have to admit his chin is a bit suspect. It doesn't help his cause that he is so one-dimensional either, but he's fun and can knock fools out.

The "Trailblazer" had a cup of tea with Bellator, won on that Contender Series, and is not joining the big dance. Holland is a long striker but terribly unproven.

Chin be damned, Thiago is going to crush this guy. Holland is wild and Santos should easily pick him apart and put him away before the final horn.

WINNER-Thiago Santos by Rd.2 TKO

Polyana Viana Mota (10-1) -140 vs. JJ Aldrich (6-2) +120

Polyana has won 6 in a row including her debut for the UFC in February via sub. "Dama De Ferro's" Jiu-Jitsu is great but her striking is damn near laughable and needs massive improvement.

JJ is a tough ass chick! Aldrich is a striker who puts in all the work necessary since her natural athleticism isn't the best. That makes MMAFO respect her even more as she is willing to do the tough things and her determination is evident, to get a win.

Both are vastly better than the other in their respective strengths. People are really sleeping on JJ here but we expect her to shock pundits staying off the canvas and touching up Polyana in an Upset.

Upset Pick WINNER-JJ Aldrich by Decision

#10 Kevin Swanson (25-9) +290 vs. Renato Carneiro (12-1-1) -350

"Cub" just resigned with the UFC and though he just suffered back to back losses against contenders Brian Ortega and Frankie Edgar, he's still a well tested dangerous veteran. Swanson made the move to "The Treigning Lab" (is that what they're calling it, really?), but at 34, how much is really going to change? "Cub" is a good striker but he is weak on the ground having been submitted 6 times in his career!

Being deficient on the ground is a bad thing going in against the Brazilian. "Moicano" is a brilliant Jiu-Jitsu fighter who has been an unexpected bright spot in the Featherweight division. Carneiro has surprisingly strong leg kicks and is defensive and careful when needs be.

Kevin's getting tapped on the floor folks. Swanson has been doing this for a long time now and we're happy he got resigned, but he's on his way down. "Cub" hasn't finished anyone for the last 5 years and without that threat, Renato will rule the day. "Shoeface" has some sneaky good striking that people sleep on while focusing on his Jitz. One guy on the way up, one guy on the way down. MMA eats its own.

WINNER-Renato Carneiro by Rd.2 Submission

Prelims on FX (7pm/CT):

Pedro Munhoz (15-3,1) -245 vs. Brett Johns (15-1) +205

"The Young Punisher" got his momentum halted against John Dodson in March, but he's a proven fighter. Pedro is aggressive to a fault but he can wade through strikes causing opponents to question things, and deliver power behind his punches.

"The Pikey" from Wales was also brought back down to Earth in April against Aljamain Sterling. Brett hunts for the submission but he will be meeting another good grappler. Johns will also not be able to hurt or hang with Munhoz on the feet making this a long night for the kid. Too much too soon and the future will be bright for Brett, but this night will be a lesson.

WINNER-Pedro Munhoz by Decision

Ricky Simon (10-1) +100 vs. Montel Jackson (3-0) -120

Three pro fights and Jackson is ready for the UFC? Yeah, not so sure about that. "DJ Quik" is a strong striker, and much love to his coach Eric Schafer a former UFC vet, but 3 fights?

Six wins in a row for Simon who is non-stop action and well rounded. Avoid the power and Ricky takes this on points.

Upset Pick WINNER-Ricky Simon by Decision

Ricardo Ramos (11-1) -210 vs. Kyung Ho Kang (13-7,1) +175

"Mr. Perfect" has found his stride winning his last 3 and amassing a 3-1-1 record in the UFC. The Korean is fast, aggressive, and a submission expert.

RLR relies upon athleticism more than technique, but he just turned 23 so he is likely learning at a high clip.

Both men have the ability to win here but Kang's experience should carry the day over the kid still on the come up.

Upset Pick WINNER-Kyung Ho Kang by Decision

Matt Sayles (6-1) -105 vs. Sheymon Moraes (9-1) -115

This is your let the leather fly slobber knocker on the card. Sheymon has more tools unless he gets caught being reckless.

WINNER-Sheymon Moraes by Decision

Prelims on UFC Fight Pass (6pm/CT):

Alex Perez (20-4) -135 vs. Jose Torres (8-0) +115

It's always tough to make your debut in the UFC, but it does help when your opponent knocks himself out in a slam to give you the win. Jose was losing a bit when Jarred Brooks decided to sleep himself back in June, but a win is a win. "Shorty" be ultra-aggressive out there and a former Titan FC Champion.

Perez has won 7 in a row and can really chain together the moves but he's going to be put on the back foot against Torres' crazy cardio.

This is a toughy to call. Ya kinda feel like both men have distinct advantages in their areas of expertise, but we like Alex's wrestling to gain him at least 2 rounds before Jose comes strong late in a close fight.

WINNER-Alex Perez by Decision

Danielle Taylor (9-3) +220 vs. Zhang Weili (16-1) -260

Are we done with the DT experiment yet? The lady is unable to pull the trigger looking like a mini-Rashad Evans out there. She can grapple but she's so small, though built like a tank, she wastes a ton of movement getting inside to do nothing.

Zhang lost her 1st professional bout, and has since gone on a tear winning 16 in a row! Weili is making her promotional debut and is quite well rounded. The opposite of Taylor, Zhang will bring the fight and is a whirling dervish of activity with knockout potential. C'mon girl, get Danielle out of there and out of the UFC please.

WINNER-Weili Zhang by Decision

Marlon Vera (10-5-1) -550 vs. Wuliji Buren (10-5) +425

Well, the UFC wanted to get Buren a win but his initial, beatable opponent (because marketing to China is more important than hiring deserving fighters), Bharat Khandare dropped out, so now the attempt to get "The Beastmaster" will fail. Wuliji is hardly UFC ready while "Chito" is a tested competitor. Vera's gonna run game here.

WINNER-Marlon Vera by Rd.1 Submission

Bethe Correia versus Irene Aldana is Cancelled.

"The Bethe" was "not medically cleared" to fight.
