UFC 234 Results: Spiderbender Headlines Without The Reaper

PPV Main Card Results:

Israel Adesanya defeated Anderson Silva by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 30-27 2x).

This was a better fight than it had the right to be. It took a minute to get going (standard in a Silva fight) but then it was fun. It wasn't non-stop action but it didn't have to be. It had elements of a chess match, two mirrors meeting each other, strong skills, and a glimpse back to when "The Spider" was invincible. Ultimately, "The Last Stylebender" was too confident and quick. Adesanya landed brutal leg strikes time and again while connecting with Silva who continually gestured he wasn't hurt, though the blows counted. Israel is the future and he pulled away slowly from the past but it was nice to see Andy survive the encounter and give us a few flashbacks to when he was king. "Fight of the Night"

Landon Vannata tapped Marcos Mariano via Kimura at 4:55 of the very 1st round.

"Lando" needed that! "Groovy" had not earned a victory in his last 4 appearances and got a highlight win. Well done, now prove you are a contender.

Ricky Simon defeated Rani Yahya by Unanimous Decision(30-25, 30-27 2x).

Montana De La Rosa submitted Nadia Kassem via Armbar at 2:37 of the 2nd round.

It was a battle of the shorty's but De La Rosa outclassed Kassem. Nadia may not be ready for the UFC level but Montana is on the move. "Submission of the Night"

Jim Crute defeated Sam Alvey by TKO (referee stoppage) at 2:49 of the opening round.

We have referee controversy! Alvey was dropped with a right hand but got up quickly as Goddard was coming in for a look. Jim withdrew without following up and then the realization set in that the fight was till continuing. Crute then went after the retreating Alvey who caught a high kick coming his way and ran Jim to the center of the Octagon. Both men went to the ground and Crute rolled on top and began delivering G&P. Alvey didn't do anything to defend himself and the ref stopped the fight.

Sam was not smilin' as he had previously claimed Marc had stopped his fights prematurely before and screamed in anger at Goddard.

MMAFO will state this one time for the new year. Turtling up and waiting for the storm to pass is NOT defending oneself! Fucking move or don't complain when things are stopped and it's too late.

ESPN Prelims Results:

Devonte Smith TKO’d Dong Hyun Ma 3:53 into the bout.

Yeah, we saw this coming a mile away. Devonte hits like a motherfucker and Ma just doesn't protect herself well. Er, him, we mean. "(T)KO of the Night"

Shane Young defeated Austin Arnett by Unanimous Decision (30-27 3x).

Kai Kara-France defeated Raulian Paiva by Split Decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).

Kyung Ho Kang submitted Teruto Ishihara via Rear Naked Choke at 3:59 of the opening round.

Let this be the last time we see Ishihara in the UFC! That is 3 losses in a row (3-5 in the promotion) and more importantly, he's just not good.

"Mr. Perfect" may get some run yet at Bantamweight.

Fight Pass Prelims Results:

Jalin Turner KO’d Callan Potter with Strikes a mere 0:53 into the very 1st round.

Jonathan Martinez defeated Wuliji Buren by Unanimous Decision (29-28 30-27 2x).

We would be remiss if we didn't point out that MMAFO went 10-1 on the picks. That, is how you do it!
