Bellator 138 Ken Shamrock vs Kimbo Slice: Picks, Prognostications, & Odds

June 19, 2015
Scottrade Center
St. Louis, Missouri

Main Card on Spike TV:

Ken Shamrock (28-15) +215 vs. Kevin Ferguson (4-2) -275

What the hell has happened to the state of MMA? We've traveled back in time to 2008 when an over the hill Shamrock is facing Internet backyard brawling sensation "Kimbo Slice." Now 7 years later we get ready to do the damn thing again, for the 1st time, as a now 51 year old (jesus christ) Ken meets the 41 year old Slicer in a freak fight the promises to be a train wreck. But hey, MMAFO will be watching.

Shamrock hasn't competed since '10 when he lost via TKO (2 minutes into the fight) to Mike Bourke who ended his MMA career with said win amassing a professional record of 10-16. Yes, Ken lost to that level of competition because his chin is shot and the man has been (T)KO's 9 goddamn times in his career! Does not bode well against a heavy hitter. We know Ken has some submissions, especially leglocks in his arsenal, but he is shell of his former self despite him Tweeting a suspicious picture of himself looking jacked to the gills. His striking, has never been very good.

"Kimbo" is a boxer and street fighter in the literal sense. "Slicington" hasn't competed in MMA since '10 and went on to do a bit of professional boxing though controversy has arisen that some, if not all, of the fights were fixed. Fergy has zero to offer on the ground and a very limited gas tank.

Pick your poison people. Can Ken get "Kimbotox" to the mat before he gets his chin checked and cracked? We highly doubt it. Long, long ago we learned Shamrock is in these things for a payday despite whatever vitriol he claims to have for his opponent. Disrespect, bla, bla, bla, etc. He can post all the yoked training pics he wants but the sad fact is, when this guy gets hit, he crumbles in dramatic fashion. This harkens back to the days of Pride FC's freak fights which we at MMAFO are not against, but let's not make this event something its not. Eyeballs will be tuning in, but what the hell are we going to see?
WINNER-Kimbo Slice by Rd.1 TKO

Lightweight Champion Patricio Freire (23-2) -285 vs. Daniel Weichel (35-8) +225

One of the most underrated Featherweights in the game has finally earned his title and isn't going to be letting go of it without a vicious fight. "Pitbull" is really, really well rounded and has greatly improved the weakest part of his game, the striking. Freire has learned to throw combinations via counter striking and has one of the most beautiful left hooks in the game today.

Ze German "Weasel" has won 7 in a row including names like Pat Curran and Desmond Green. Weichel has 21 career subs and has loves the RNC as his go-to move.

The Jiu-Jitsu/grappling will cancel each other out on the mat at best for Daniel, but ze German can't hang with Patricio on the feet plain and simple. Weichel needs to get this to the ground, which doesn't give one the best of odds against "Pitbull," but the Brazilian's takedown defense is stellar. Freire prolly wins on points but he could get a stoppage late.
WINNER-Patricio Freire by Decision

Bobby Lashley (12-2) -550 vs. Dan Charles (9-2) +375

Jesus, what do we say about this mess? Lashley is an awful fighter but he's a monster of muscles. Dan has a puncher's chance. Provided he doesn't completely gas out before the final bell, Bobbo will take Charles down and lay on him for a miserable 15.
WINNER-Bobby Lashley by Decision

Daniel Straus (23-6) -400 vs. Henry Corrales (12-0) +300

We enjoy the cut of Daniel's jib. The guy is just a workhorse, can blast fools on the ground, and can work for days. The problem we have noticed, is he is sloppy and tends to put himself into dangerous positions that he doesn't need to be in.

Corrales is a good striker in the clinch, has heavy hands, but undefeated or not, he ain't ready for this. Straus is going to run game and teach Henry about the upper echelon.
WINNER-Daniel Straus by Decision

Michael Chandler (12-3) -550 vs. Derek Campos (15-4) +375

Mizzou's own Chandler returns to the cage after losing Bellator's Lightweight strap to Eddie Alvarez, and then twice to now Lightweight Champion Will Brooks. Its a skid few saw coming from the ultra-talented fighter. Mike has great grappling skills in his quill and cardio for days. The mistakes have come in the striking department as the Chandler just hasn't looked comfortable finding his range on the feet something many Alliance fighters have been struggling with as of late.

The "Stallion" has gone 6-1 in the last few years and is decent everywhere loving the scrap and bringing the action. He is not, at Mike Chandler's level and is here to give an exciting performance but build the Mizzou wrestler back up.

Chandler gets into a firefight early with Campos but if necessary, takes things to the ground where he shows his true pedigree.
WINNER-Michael Chandler by Decision
