WAMMA Heavyweight Champion Fedor Emelianenko vs. Andrei "The Pitbull" Arlovski "The Last Emperor" returns from the heavens to take on the Belarus rival who is already looking to go pro in boxing before he faces the greatest of all time. Barring a lucky hay maker or unfortunate cut, Fedor will time Arlovski's strikes, wear him down, and beat the living hell outta Andrei breaking his soul, gassing him out, and forcing a G&P tapout just before the submission is locked on.

Heavyweight bout: Josh Barnett vs. Gilbert Yvel All the Yvel is a piece of cheating shit and should not be allowed to fight in the states aside (though it is true), he is a vaunted striker with K-1 ability and not much else. Barnett isn't going to try and hang on the feet here, taking Yvel down and tapping him with ease.

Light Heavyweight bout: Renato Sobral vs. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou "Babalu" meanders into another fight where you wonder if he can get excited enough to stop a guy he should beat handily, and the cardio questions still abound for a guy who has looked very bored recently. "Predator Head" doesn't do much after the 1st minute, so Babs should whether the early storm and strike back taking this to the floor where he taps out the quick to quit Team Quester. The formula, avoid the early onslaught, tire Soko out, watch for the desperation overhand punch, and grind him till his will breaks as it has so many times before.

Middleweight bout: Matt Lindland vs. Vitor Belfort Vitor has been working his ass off with Randy Couture and Sean Thompkins while Lindland has been working on the farm. The inactivity for Matt is huge as his fight cardio can't be up to par against a Vitor who will stick and move, picking at Matt with the jab and avoiding the takedowns. If taken down, a grind out could be scary but Vitor's camp expects the power early against the rusty 38 year old.

UPSET PICK WINNER-Vitor Belfort by decision
Heavyweight bout: Paul Buentello vs. Kirill Sidelnikov Fedor's "boy" brings inexperience in a stand up war with the "Headhunter." Still, "Baby Fedor" is a striker as well and neither man wants to go to the floor or the distance (in shape, not so much). I believe Paul's head movement and striking skills are far above the youngsta. Power is equal but look for Buentello to strike like a pro, and his boxing is waaay underrated, not to mention he has to have this fight for his career.

Lightweight bout: Dan Lauzon vs. Bobby Green Chris Horodecki wanted to fight but the Athletic Commission would not allow it via a bulging disc in his back restricting his right arm movement. Tough kid and I look forward to seeing Bas Rutten's protege back in action. Danny has the ground arsenal to take out the gifted last second addition striker while avoiding a dangerous exchange.

Light Heavyweight bout: Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (Rematch) Vlad won the 1st meeting by head smashing slam, but that was back in 2oo2 and the Russian is now 37 years old. The only IFL Light Heavyweight Champion likes to grind people out with hard nosed work has an 8-fight winning streak. "Lil Nog" looks to re-establish the family name with that Jiu-Jitsu prowess and boxing skill he is known for. I see this fight as a decision all the way but Vlad has looked much better in recent fights and kinda heat a hot streak while "Minotoro" has looked sluggish at best in recent activity.

Welterweight bout: Jay Hieron vs. Jason High Randy Couture's right hand man left the IFL as Welterweight Champion and is looking to establish himself in the conversation for top Welterweights not owned by the UFC. Jay has improved his stand up and always brings solid wrestling. Jason is a 6-0 power striker able to knock you out in an instant but lacks the experience against the 20 fight pro who trains with Xtreme Couture and will fight carefully to ensure a win.

Featherweight bout: Bao Quach vs. LC Davis Mark Hominick pulls out due to injury and Bao steps in. Riding in on a 9-fight winning streak, Quach trains with Team Oyama and is a well rounded fighter. LC has a nice 12-1 record with ability to finish anyone in many ways. Very exciting fighter and really a nice prospect bordering on contender at 145 lbs.

Featherweight bout: Albert Rios vs. Antonio Duarte "Tigre" brings wicked game against an ultra-tough Rios. Still, the Featherweight realm is newer to me but Duarte takes the tough battle via attrition.

Welterweight bout: Brett Cooper vs. Patrick Speight Brett brings the crazy hair along with good striking and an ability to be submitted. Spigot comes off his 1st career loss in KOTC looking to strike early and often. Cooper's Samson like hair proves the difference maker.

Jeff Monson Creates Some Anarchy

Jeff Monson has been charged with first-degree malicious mischief for spray-painting the peace sign, the anarchy symbol, and the phrases “No war” and “No poverty” on the Washington capital building on Nov. 26. ESPN The Magazine documented Monson’s protest while trailing the politically minded fighter for a feature that ran in its Dec. 29 issue. Monson was documented defacing the monument in one of the article’s accompanying photographs, which led Washington officials to the suspect. The act carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. Monson (27-8) told Sherdog.com last Thursday that he hadn’t regretted his protest and that he’d intended to turn himself in to authorities.

Then on Tuesday, authorities were called to the residence of Stephanie Trapani and detained Monson for “assault to a female” and “damage to property” following an alleged domestic dispute, said Capt. Hartman of Davies County Sheriff’s Office. Trapani was also arrested for damage to Monson’s property. The Olympian reported Monday that Trapani had discarded Monson’s cell phone after finding out he was involved in romantic relationships with other women. “He destroyed my house," Trapani told The Olympian on Monday. "He started just bashing holes in the walls and the columns." Trapani said Monson also grabbed her during the argument.

The decorated world grappling champion said he didn’t believe his pending arrest for vandalism would taint his career and that he’d planned to fight next for World Victory Road’s “Sengoku” promotion this March in Japan where he would earn his highest paycheck to date (reportedly $250,000). That may not hold true with these new charges as the "Snowman" lives up to his Anarchy beliefs causing havoc in his own personal life.

UFC 93: Cardio Collapse In Ireland

Dan Henderson defeated Rich Franklin via split decision in the UFC 93 "Main Event" in Ireland. Dan got a lot of takedowns to his credit, but it was Rich who seemed to outpoint the Team Quest founder in the stand up game. An accidental headbutt and eye poke from Dan didn't help matters much for "Ace," but he gassed Hendo (which would become a theme at this PPV) and seemed to dominate the 3rd for the victory. The judges saw it another way and give a close win to Henderson who now leaves to coach on the newest season of TUF against Micheal Bisping and a future bout. Rich no doubt continues to plug along at Light Heavyweight but must be shaking his head at this outcome.
Mauricio "Shogun" Rua defeated Mark Coleman via TKO in Round 3 to win their rematch. Coleman lasted a full minute into the fight before he was sucking wind but Shogun took his time striking slowly and getting taken down over and over only to almost submit the "Hammer." The 2nd saw the same action with Rua winning easily and Mark looking about 140 years old. Finally in the 3rd, Coleman just stood there, leaning against the cage, hands down, and breathing so heavily you thought he would collapse from lack of oxygen before strikes. To add to the excitement, the "reborn" Rua completely gassed as well pitter patter punching until Coleman finally fell and Shogun was awarded the victory. This fight was just plain ugly with Mark having no business fighting and Shogun looking like shit against a can. Chuck Liddell has already been tapped to fight Mauricio for the "Main Event" at UFC 97, yet another PPV nobody should order.
Rousimar Palhares defeated Jeremy Horn via unanimous decision as expected but not in dramatic fashion of any sort.
Alan Belcher defeated Denis Kang by submission (guillotine choke). Kang was winning the fight and just fell into Belcher's guard and a choke the quickly tapped the vaunted prospect. Shockingly, it seemed as if Denis gassed as well a bit but mainly just keeps the "Pride Curse" alive.
Marcus Davis bests Chris Lytle by Split-Decision in a decent fight that was hyped up waaaay too much. Pretty good throwdown but Davis has more technical striking and guess what, Chris got exhausted toward the end of the fight. Davis was definitely better, but if Chris ever joined a real camp like ATT or AKA he could tighten up that sloppy striking and focus on becoming a legit threat in the Welterweight division.

Martin Kampmann destroys Alexandre Barros via TKO in his Welterweight debut looking the most impressive out of anyone on this card.
Eric Schafer schools Antonio Mendes via TKO ruining my "Upset Pick" but congrats to the ginger anyway.
Thomasz Drwal punches out Ivan Serati as expected in 1 round while Dennis Siver took it to the 3rd before stopping Nate Mohr with strikes.

So what have we learned here kids? Hendo will go on to TUF while Rich kinda mulls around the Light Heavyweight scene trying to stay relevant. Shogun is not back and in fact looks as if he will be crushed by the "Iceman" in their once dream match. Jeremy Horn should retire along with Mark Coleman and he can join him in the UFC "Hall of Fame." The "Talent" will continue to do not much in the Middleweight division and Kang needs to check his heart if he is going to fight in the UFC at any sort of high level. Kampmann will be a force though probably not a champion and the Eric is a mid-level guy. Perhaps training cardio should be on every one's New Year's resolutions this year, and the UFC needs to trim their roster and put together some decent PPV's. The coming storm is gonna suck. 8-2 on the picks which is about par for the course. Bet.

UFC 93 Comes To Ireland: Picks & Prognostications

Main Card
Light Heavyweight bout: Rich Franklin vs. Dan Henderson The winner of this Light Heavyweight bout goes on to the next season of TUF to fight Michael Bisping at Middleweight. Makes sense right? At anywho, these 2 well rounded amazing fighters are going to put on a show in Ireland. Both are smart fighters who gameplan well and are talented no matter where the fight goes. The only strength I can see for either man is Dan has that iron chin and brick of a right hand, while Rich has been KO'd before and not devastating striking power. If keeping his distance using leg kicks and reach advantage, Franklin can take this on points while Hendo wants a dirty ground fight with his sloppy striking and inyoface action. I see Henderson frustrating "Ace" with his unorthodox punching and getting this fight to the floor where Rich absorbs punishment but isn't put away.

Light Heavyweight bout: Mark Coleman vs. Mauricio Rua Is anyone really going to pick the 44 year old 1 dimensional Hammer House relic? Coleman looks like an X-Files extra debuting at Light Heavyweight and besides a lucky break (literally) against Rua last time, what can he offer against a man with better stamina, far superior striking, Jiu-Jitsu which Mark has none of, and a desire of redemption against a man who claims a victory against him? Shogun is revamped, in shape, and healthy.

Middleweight bout: Alan Belcher vs. Denis Kang Denis Kang makes his long awaited debut in the UFC bringing his 42 fights of experience against some of the best Middleweights in the world. Belcher is no can but Kang has seen better and if he fights smart with his hands up he should take this bout for a successful debut.

Welterweight bout: Marcus Davis vs. Chris Lytle The projected "Fight Of The Night" in every one's picks has the 2 exciting brawlers throwing bombs (or grenades in Mark's case) till the other man falls. A great war for the Irish fans but can you really pick against the Irishman in his homeland? I think not. Marcus Davis gets the biggest pop of the night when he puts away Lytle like the IRA put away the Black & Tans.

Middleweight bout: Jeremy Horn vs. Rousimar Palhares I don't like "Gumby's" chances here at all. Designed as a submission expo, Horn's 104th fight will more likely be a passing of the torch, as "Toquinho" bests the teacher with superior power and a more advanced submission set.

Barros is a "live" fighter who can give anyone fits, but his striking can't hang with the Denmark native looking to rebound while across the North Sea his homeland cheers one of their own.

Light Heavyweight bout: Eric Schafer vs. Antonio Mendes Here Mendes has a chance at an upset against a guy who is a ground warrior who has already taken out many big strikers like Antonio. I hate to pick against a "red" especially in Ireland, but the impressive loss against Thiago Silva and Schafer's inconsistency leads me to the ATT Brazilian.

Fedor Emelianenko responds to Andrei Arlovski, Freddie Roach, and Dana White in exclusive interview with 5 Oz. of Pain

There are just 17 days until Fedor Emelianenko defends his WAMMA heavyweight title against former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski during Affliction and M-1’s “Day of Reckoning” on January 24 in Anaheim, California.
Sam Caplan: You train in your home town of Stary Oskol, which is very isolated from the rest of the world. With so many world class camps popping up that have some many top coaches and training partners, why do you choose to keep things simple?
Fedor Emelianenko: My training is not simple. I believe I train harder than anyone else in the world. The strength and power I obtain can only [be done so] here in Russia. I feed off my surroundings and I do not believe I would be as prepared if I trained somewhere else. I like to have everything I love around me when I train.
Sam Caplan: During a recent press conference to promote “Day of Reckoning,” Andrei Arlovski questioned the sincerity of a statement you made last month regarding the your loss at the Combat Sambo Championships. Can you respond to that statement?
Fedor Emelianenko: Maybe Andrei is trying to convince himself that I have been weakened in some way. But it [doesn’t] matter [as] we are not fighting Sambo with Andrei. The only thing I am 100 percent sure about is that I will be 100 percent ready to fight MMA against Andrei. And that is the only thing I care about right now.
Sam Caplan: One of Arlovski’s trainers, famed boxing trainer Freddie Roach, questioned some aspects of your standup from a technical boxing perspective, most notably your footwork. Do you feel Roach’s criticisms are relevant to MMA?
Fedor Emelianenko: The beauty about MMA is that every fighter has his own unique style and preferences. But it’s not a beauty contest. We fight to see which fighter’s approach prevails. But again, we are not boxing and we are not fighting Sambo. We fight MMA.
Sam Caplan: How do you feel about an opponent’s trainer saying picking a part your standup like that?
Fedor Emelianenko: Sometimes it is a trainer’s job to point out weaknesses in his fighter’s opponents. And sometimes it is a trainer’s job to convince his fighter that his opponent has weaknesses. We will see.
Sam Caplan: During a recent radio interview, UFC president Dana White once again made some negative remarks about you. He especially tried to discredit your victory over Tim Sylvia. Could you respond to that statement?
Fedor Emelianenko: I think if Dana White says something negative about his [former] champions then he is only saying something negative about his own organization. I have victories over many of the UFC’s champions. If he says something bad about them or me then he only makes his organization look weak.
Sam Caplan: White has said many negative things about you in the past. Is it at a point where he has burned a bridge with you, or would you still consider fighting in a promotion he’s involved with under the right circumstances?
Fedor Emelianenko: I do not pay too much attention to what Dana White says in the media. He is trying to sell one thing as good and make you not buy another thing by saying it is bad. I just want to fight the best fighters in the world. I am lucky that the best heavyweight fighters in the world right now are with M-1 Global and Affliction. If the situation is right and there is someone really good in the UFC that will fight me, then I would be fine fighting [for] them.
Sam Caplan: If you fought for the UFC, do you think Dana would be referring to you as the number one heavyweight in the world?
Fedor Emelianenko: (Laughs) I think if I fought for the UFC, he would try to sell me as the greatest MMA fighter that ever lived.
Sam Caplan: White has blamed your management as the reason why you are not in the UFC. Do you agree with his assessment?
Fedor Emelianenko: No.
Sam Caplan: There have also been questions raised about how much control you have over your career. Could you set the record straight and comment who has the final say in regard to who has final say: you or your management?
Fedor Emelianenko: It depends on the decisions. I am not a specialist in some thing. Sometimes I make the decisions and sometimes we make them together. If I stop fighting tomorrow, I stop. If I want to fight Sambo, I fight. If I need to finish my training camp and miss a press conference, I need to. But I am lucky to have good management with my team, M-1 Global. I am part of M-1 Global so it is easy to make decisions together.
Sam Caplan: White has proclaimed Anderson Silva the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world. Do you have any interest in fighting Silva and if so, how do you see that fight going down?
Fedor Emelianenko: If this was a fight that the fans would want, why not? I also never make predictions on how a fight will turn out.
Sam Caplan: M-1 USA Vice President Jerry Millen made the statement that in a fight with Brock Lesnar, he would not make it past the first round against you. Do you agree with that assessment?
Fedor Emelianenko: I just do not like to make predictions [because] anything can happen in a ring. Lesnar has some natural talent. It would be an interesting fight for fans to see.
Sam Caplan: Your protege, Kirill “Baby Fedor” Sidelnikov will also be competing at “Day of Reckoning.” At only 20-years of age, do you think he’s ready for such a high-profile match against a seasoned veteran such as Paul Buentello?
Fedor Emelianenko: Kirill has improved greatly with his fights in the M-1 Challenge and helped out Red Devil Team reach the world finals. I think Buentello is a good test for Kirill but I know Kirill is ready.
Sam Caplan: During some recent interviews you revealed that you weren’t looking forward to a possible fight vs. Randy Couture because he’s a friend. But if he were to suddenly to become a free agent, would you refuse the fight?
Fedor Emelianenko: I would not refuse the fight because I believe Randy and I are both ambassadors for the sport of MMA and we would help grow the sport very much with the fight. This was the main reason why I wanted to fight Randy, even if it meant to fight someone I admired.
Sam Caplan: If you are able to defeat Arlovski, it’s been said your next fight could come against the winner of the Barnett vs. Yvel fight. It’s also been said that you are friends with Barnett. You said you weren’t looking forward to fight Couture because he’s a friend, so how do you feel about the possibility of facing him?
Fedor Emelianenko: Yes, Josh and I are friends. But once again, the best should fight the best for [the good] of the sport of MMA. It would be okay.
Sam Caplan: Ideally, how many times would you like to fight in 2009?
Fedor Emelianenko: God willing, it will be nice to fight three times in 2009 and have one more fight New Year’s Eve

Here's a tip, don't stand straight up hands down for a striking war, and perhaps work on some cardio if you are going to fight more than 1 round. Eiji Mitsuoka took out Sergey Golyaev via armbar submission taking the Red Devil out.
Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva was technically better in spades over Yoshihiro "Kiss" Nakao and a knee injury caused the official end, Silva had this bout whenever he wanted to end it.
Muhammed "Annoying As Shit" Lawal TKO'd Yukiya Naito in another eh affair. Till "King Mo" fights somebody good I'm not going to flip out over him like most in the MMA world are doing. He's got an annoying shtick and won't shut the fuck up, but we have yet to see just how good this cat can be.

Jorge Santiago took almost the entire 5 rounds to put away Kazuo Misaki. Finally, Sengoku's 1st Middleweight Champion was crowned when he locked in the RNC putting Misaki to sleep.
Satoru Kitaoka took only 1:41 to submit Takanori Gomi with an Achilles lock. No time for excuses for an obviously disappointed Gomi, but this loss could set up a rematch with Sergey Golyaev who got a bewildering decision win from the judges against the "Fireball Kid" in November. Satoru becomes the 1st Sengoku Lightweight Champion and the bulls eye is now on his back.

Andy Ologun shocks everyone by actually winning a fight by KOing Yukio Sakaguchi in Rd.1 Bob Sapp fought Akihito Tanaka, a masked "Pro Wrestler" by TKO proving the "Beast" is still a sideshow attraction and not a legit MMA fighter.
Semmy Schilt used his 10 foot long legs to submit Siala Siliga with a nice triangle choke. I wonder what could happen if the near 7'0" fighter made a run at real opponents?
Hayato "Mach" Sakurai TKO's Katsuyori Shibata to win 2 in a row after dropping an upset loss to David Baron. Back on track lets see Mach back in title contention. A bevy of good opponents await such as Eddie Alvarez, Joachim Hansen, JZ, and Aoki.
Mirko Filipovic chopped down Hong Man Choi injuring the 7'2" "Goliath's" left leg. What is most surprising about this fight is that "Cro Cop" stated that he will fight 3 more times in DREAM next year and then plans to retire with a final fight in the UFC! However, he is taking the 1st 6 months off to have yet another knee surgery. Fitting those 3 fights into the other 6 months of 2009 seems unlikely but it will be fascinating to watch Cro Cop wind down his career to see where he will stand in the history of MMA.
Melvin Manhoef clocked Mark Hunt unconscious in a mere 18 seconds of their bout!. Outweighed by 50 lbs., Manho struck, needing only 2 punches as Hunt came charging in giving the New Zealander his 1st KO loss in MMA. A big upset and Mark has now dropped his last 4 fights!
Shinya Aoki subbed the seemingly always over zealous Eddie Alvarez with a heel hook in the 1st stanza. Aoki then called out BJ Penn citing his will to "fight the best in the world." Hmmm, could be interesting.

UFC 92 Results: The Ultimate Letdown

Antoni Hardonk TKO's Mike Wessel in an exciting affair resembling Oleg Taktarov versus Tank Abbott back in the dizzay. Budonkadonk stays in the Heavyweight mix and I'd watch Wessel slug it out again for a fight he doesn't take on short notice.
Yushin Okami decisions Dean Lister in a fight the crowd absolutely loved. Lister pulls guard over and over and "Thunder" out-points him as expected. This tedious fight does nothing for Okami's bid for a title shot with Anderson Silva. Expect Thatles Leites to ink that contract soon.
Cheick Kongo elbowed Mustapha al Turk into oblivion. I'd like to see Kongo fight Junior Dos Santos next to push the big fella in a bout with a fellow big time striker.
Quinton Jackson KO'd Wanderlei Silva with a punch he threw while not even looking for the lucky win. Fuck "Rampage" for the extra striking on Wand as the referee is trying to pull him off. That's 3 unnecessary punches and if the UFC has any consistency for illegal "unnecessary roughness," they will fine Jackson huge for this despicable act. Remember, they fired "Babalu" Sobral for holding on to a choke after a tap and blacking out David Heath. Did I mention fuck "Rampage?"
CB Dollaway got a belated X-Mas gift from the ref in an early stoppage over Mike Massenzio via TKO. The 1 legged Mike actually seemed in control over the cocky Arizonan, but I still believe he was going to be TKO'd eventually while sprawled out so who cares?
Frank Mir had the most impressive performance of his career out-striking and TKOing the formerly unstoppable Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in 2 rounds. Damn that was unexpected but amazing and "Big Nog" looked out of shape, flat footed, and old, getting knocked down 3 times in this bout. Frank let Brock Lesnar know he is coming for him next as the other Heavyweight Champion smiled and pointed to his next opponent. Mir looked great but it's still only 2 rounds so let the cardio questions remain though give Frank the day and the congrats in the fight of his life!
Rashad Evans curb stops Forrest Griffin after losing the 1st 2 rounds to the former champ, and then as per usual, found his rhythm and dropped Griffin and then curb stomped him into submission? The debate on whether or not Forrest tapped remains but the outcome does not. "Sugar" is a shitty nickname and maybe "Impressive" is more apt. Rashad has to be one of the most improved fighters I've ever seen. The guy is so quick and really talented in all areas of the game. Congratulations to the new champion who fights cocky, but is really humble and well spoken (the 2nd comment is a joke people) class act. His suits are straight pimp as well.

Afterthoughts:

Rashad Evans vs Quinton Jackson is most likely on the horizon and there are infinite possibilities for Forrest. I could see Antonio Noguiera vs Randy Couture soon in a "legends" bout. There is zero employment opportunity for Dan Stevenson in the UFC, fire him. Dean Lister's striking is like watching Michael Jordan swing at a baseball. Jesus, let Deaner go already and he can continue to be a great Jiu-Jitsu instructor and submission grappler only.

Finally and most painfully, the future of Wanderlei Silva is very uncertain. 1-4 in his last 5 fights with 3 leaving him in an unconscious heap shattering hopes of the legend returning to title contention. The suggestion of moving to Middleweight (185 lbs.) is always a possibility, but after the concussion syndrome in recent bouts, retirement, or at the very least, a looong layoff seem to be the reality. Everyone will always want to watch the uber-exciting "Axe Murderer," but should we when considering the health of the 32 year old figher who is 77 years old in combat age. Regardless, I mean irregardless, I still love the guy and he is an amazing legend and hall of famer. 6-4 on the picks and this event sucked as far as the guys I'm rooting for goes. K-1 Dynamite is next.

UFC "Interim" Heavyweight Champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Frank Mir I love both these guys and the Jiu-Jitsu war could be closer than people expect. However, Mir's striking and chin are no where near as elite as the unstoppable "Big Nog."

UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Forrest Griffin vs. Rashad Evans Athleticism and highlight reel striking aside, I have changed my mind on this TUF alumni battle for the belt. Rashad looks great often after a slow start, while Griffin attacks you with a non-stop "I will out work you" approach that will give Evans fits. No doubt Randy Couture has worked with Griffin on avoiding the distance and that overhand right of death, so Forrest clinches and brawls to victory. Watch for Griffin to break Evans will at some point in the 3rd or 4th round as frustration leads to giving up.

Wand is focused and full of hate for a man he just cannot stand the sight of. A "gong and dash" approach for Wand jumping all over Jackson leads to disarray for "Rampage" who is coming to this fight with court troubles looming, a new camp, and an "Axe Murderer" back to true form.

Hopefully, the Dollaway arrogance has been abated and he will take things serious in a fight in which he must focus his full attention.

FightOfTheYear- Joachim "Hellboy" Hansen vs Eddie Alvarez It was a 15:00 minute war during DREAM's Lightweight Grand Prix Quarterfinals on May 11, 2008. Joachim was the vicious striker from Norway who ran headfirst into Alvarez the KO machine from Philly. There was no feeling out process, just two men throwing to kill for the entire duration. Multiple knockdowns for both men and a blitzkrieg match that ended with the judges awarding Eddie the win.

KnockoutOfTheYear- Everyone's favorite explosivo finish had a plethora of candidates this year. Rashad Evans stunned the world and Chuck Liddell. Rory Markham stole a win from Brodie Farber with an amazing head kick. Josh Koscheck put Yoshiyuki Yoshida to sleep for some time. For me, the award goes to little known Jeremy Stephens Mortal Kombat style uppercut of death to Rafael Dos Anjos at UFC 91.

MMA fighter Justin Levens (28), and his wife, Sara McLean-Levens (25) were found shot to death in their California home. The Orange County Register details that both were scheduled to appear in court where they faced charges of assault with a deadly weapon on the day the shootings occurred. An earlier report filed by Josh Hart noted that according to a report from NBC Sports, police will continue ballistics, residue and toxicological testing, which will help them definitively make a ruling on the crime. The winner of the upcoming GilbertYvel and Josh Barnett fight will face the winner of Fedor Emelianenko/AndreiArlovski (bouts at Affliction's 2nd show "Day Of Reckoning" in January) for the WAMMA title. How Yvel deserves a title shot if the stars collide and he upsets Barnett is beyond me. The Dutch fighter has bitten an opponent, repeatedly poked an adversary's eyes, and once even assaulted a referee, yet California managed to give him a license to fight anyway.

Satoshi Ishii, a 21 year old Beijing Super Heavyweight Judo Gold Medalist is a hot commodity today with DREAM and the UFC trying to sign the fighter who is training with the aforementioned American Top Team. He has said he wants to fight in the UFC but a recent reported offer of $5 million from DREAM may just sway his decision.

Diego Sanchez is reportedly moving to Lightweight (which he said he would never do) to face fellow TUF winner Joe Stevenson. This could be a real kick ass fight and if the "Nightmare's" body adjusts well to the weight cut, he will be devastating at his new home.
A little humor as Ken Shamrock will attempt to fight in the main event of "Valentines Eve Massacre" on Feb. 13, 2009 at the Selland Arena in Fresno, California. Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture has signed on for a major role in Sylvester Stallone's next action project, titled The Expendables. Yes yes, reporting late but there wasn't much to report on this Ultimate Finale of the lame. Eliot and Johnson looked impressive, and Wilson Gouveia put himself in the Middleweight title hunt but the TUF winners, eh. Maybe its nitpicking but what is with all the retarded nicknames guys are coming up with these days ("The Hater Hurter," "Buckets Of Blood." "The Polish Experiment," "The Crazy Cuban," "The Filthy Mauler," "The Insane 1,"& Junie "McShithead")? At anywho, the Ultimate Fighter 8 was filled with eating each others bodily functions, tantrums that should have gotten people thrown in jail, not to mention kicked off the show, KO's of guys that can't be KO'd, 2 good coaches, and 1 shitty season of fighters which will probably produce about (maybe) 5 guys who will still be employed in the UFC next year. I'd say this is a lame roster, but so was the UFN 16 which produced spectacular jaw dropping fights. So on to it shall we?

MAIN CARD
Efrain Escudero vs. Phillipe Nover The Lightweight Finale features 2 good prospects but 1 gets the honors. If you check the rap sheet you notice one guy has more experience and is cerebral under pressure. 1 is untested and 1 is more ready than the other. Phillipe "Navidad" has a chance to become a real talent in a few years for the most competitive division in the UFC, but this night go with the durable though maybe boring guy, who has the ability to earn more points in a close affair.

Ryan Bader vs. Vinicius Magalhaes The Light Heavyweight showdown is similar in that Bader relies too much on his wrestling ability, but Vinny also relies heavily upon his Jiu-Jistsu. The difference maker is that Maghal is far superior when employing his strengths though he has a weak record and does not like to exchange on the feet. This could be closer than people expect and I am tempted to "Upset Pick" Bader upon his power but after UFN 16's debacle of picks I'm playing it safe.

Kevin Burns vs. Anthony Johnson The "eye poke" rematch brings these 2 men back together after "Rumble" took a finger from Burns deep into his eye. Anthony was winning the 1st affair until the injury halted the fight and the referee wrongly awarded the victory to Kev via TKO. Revenge comes swiftly with a "muscle twitch" TKO from Rumble this time.

Wilson Gouveia vs. Jason MacDonald I do love it when fighters miss weight and Wilson missed it by a good 4 pounds! Inexcusable but the "Athlete's" superior stamina and striking will make it a long night for Gouveia. Will always has question marks around his gas tank as well as his willingness to lay everything on the line to win. MacDonald does the exact opposite giving his all in every fight and has too many ways to win this bout.

UFN 16: Violent Injuries In Front Of The Troops

I renamed last nights event "UFN 16: Violent Injuries In Front Of The Troops," because that is exactly what we had on a few different occasions. My diatribe against war and our troops be damned, we've got to talk about the night that was, and the careers that may have ended. Oh, and the idiot troops did to the USA, USA, chant for Swick (USA) during his fight with Goulet (Canadian).

Josh Koscheck stood Yoshiyuki Yoshida up against the fence with a straight right, and ended his evening with a KO right hook. Emphatic to say the least, it sure was nice to see the UFC conducting interviews in the Octagon as "Zenko" still laid motionless. Yoshida is fine and was released from the hospital later that evening. I will never again refer to Kos' stand up skills as "improving." Be afraid of this ever impressing fighter.

Mike "Quick" Swick, oh crap the fight is already over. Jon Goulet shockingly got KO'd in 33 seconds. Anyway........

On to our 2nd brutal injury of the night. Steve Cantwell snapped Razak Al-Hassan's arm like a twig in their 1 round affair. Both men looked pretty good but then Razak went to employ his worthless in MMA taekwondo, and once to the floor, the 22 year old Cantwell locked on an armbar. Credit to Razak he did not tap, instead settling for a dislocated arm which looked broken initially. Props to the ref for stepping in to save the fighter. Steve has an impressive UFC debut, and Razak, I hope we see you again in 9 months.

Tim Credeur really surprised and impressed me by hurting Nate Loughran to the body, head, and to his pride forcing the formerly undefeated kid unable to answer the call of the 3rd round via TKO rib injury (possibly broken). Tim was all over the kid putting together combo's and didn't even have to use his Blackbelt in Jiu-Jistsu.

Jim Miller took a unanimous decision over Matt Wiman after only 1 weeks notice and coming off of his honeymoon! I didn't think his cardio would hold up but he dismantled Matt in every facet of the fight. You could tell Miller was getting winded toward the mid-2nd round but pushed through and I'm going to keep preaching, Jim and his brother Dan Miller are going to be stars! Oh and Matt is still overrated.

Ben Saunders unloaded what has to be a record consecutive set of Muay Thai knee's to the head of Brandon Wolff. It was an unstoppable display and in the end when the poor kid fell and the slaughter was over, Wolff's head looked worse than Hasim Rahman's after his fight with Evander Holyfield. "Killa-B," whya gotta be so mean?

Finally, the worst injury of the night which came in only the 2nd fight of the night. Corey Hill lost via TKO (leg injury) when he snapped his leg in 2 striking Dale Hartt. Dale didn't see at 1st and took Corey down, who in turn with snapped twig flapping in the wind, tried to secure a kimura and didn't even scream! The ref halted things as shock filled Hill's face and Dale visibly upset paced the cage as doctors attended to the fallen fighter. My best to Corey, he's a good guy, but this is going to be a hard injury to return from. Let's hope he can make a comeback in due time.

Steve, Justin, and Luigi all won their fights as well.

A mouse the likes I have never seen from a blitzkrieg of knees, 4 ridiculous KO's, and 2 injuries I hope to never see likes of again. A show that really had to be seen to be believed. God forgive you if you were just being lazy and didn't go over to your friends house to watch the fight but instead went to bed like a pussy and missed everything. And the tapes and video will never surface again.

UFC: Fight For The Troops or how I learned to stop worrying and call it UFC Fight Night 16

Wow is this card ugly. I mean free is free but this roster is filled with fighters who will not be in the UFC next year. The IFL with its current roster could out perform this event in David Spades. The main event is good but then it drops off a fucking cliff. I guess they figure, hey, the military is full of morons and they just want to see some guys throwing bones anyway. Gee, I wonder if they will cheer USA, USA, during the main event. Oh, our boys in green, well oiled sheep given leave to imbibe as much alcohol as they can before they go home and frag each other in the showers.
I don't wanna sound unhappy or belligerent toward our troops who risk their lives in ignorant battles for no purpose and supposedly America. The event will help raise funds for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, which provides support for severely wounded military personnel and veterans and the families of bla bla bla. So what if they signed up because they are dumb enough to buy into the propaganda the Washington puppet masters are selling them and kinda really deserve what they get since they got huge erections killing "towel heads" and basically any "foreign looking" people while wanting to live a real life "Call Of Duty" game.

Welterweight bout: Josh Koscheck vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida I respect Kos more and more every time he fights including the short notice loss to Thiago Alves. He is really improving his standup, has cardio for days, really an iron chin, and of course silly sick wrestling. "Zenko" returns to the UFC for his 2nd bout, bringing the stand up pain. Me gut tells me after a frustrating loss to Alves, pity the opponent who stand before Kos. It should be a good war and I could go on and on about how it will go down, but an angry "Blanket" is a winner.

Welterweight bout: Jonathan Goulet vs. Mike Swick Goulet really? How many times does he get to come back with an average 4-3 UFC record and consistently be the most inconsistently fighter alive? Jesus. Well, Swick is again given an opponent he can defeat (Dana must really like this guy, I mean reallylike, wink wink, nod, nod) as he continues his slow ride into the Welterweight division. Lets just hope he returns to the days of "Quick" Swick and ends this fast.

Middleweight bout: Tim Credeur vs. Nate Loughran I actually like Nate to "upset" this season TUF fighter. Tim is ok at most everything but great at nothing. Loughran is an undefeated long limbed submission fighter who should at the very least control the action on the ground for a decision at worst and a submission win at best.

Manny Pacquiao defeats Oscar De La Hoya

Manny Pacquiao defeated Oscar De La Hoya by TKO on Saturday (December 6th). Widely considered the best Pound 4 Pound fighter in boxing today, "Pac-Man" dominated the "Golden Boy" with superior speed and surprising power. Oscar had no answers for the smaller challenger whose strikes closed the left eye of De La Hoya causing him to be unable to answer the bell for the 9th round. The fight was never close as Manny won all 8 of the preceding rounds and was bashing the 35 year old fighter who seemed stuck in cement.

Manny Pacquiao has won 4 world titles in different weight divisions. The Welterweight fight (147 lbs.) seemed to be too much for the Filipino who usually fights at around 130 lbs., or so we thought. The current WBC Lightweight Champion, former WBC Super Featherweight Champion, Ring Magazine's super featherweight and featherweight champion, world champion at IBF Super Bantamweight, and WBC Flyweight divisions, is 53-3 with a 9 fight winning streak! Impressive to say the least, Pac-Man is one of the few boxers in the world that is always entertaining and never stops his assault on opponents.

Though the career of Oscar De La Hoya may be over, let us not forget he has defeated seventeen world champions and has won ten world titles in six different weight classes. He has also generated more money than any other boxer in the history of the sport. The "Golden Era" may be over, but the 39-6 boxer is a 1st ballot "Hall Of Famer" and the consummate professional and gentleman.

Remy Bonjasky 2008 K-1 World Champion

Remy "The Flying Gentleman" Bonjasky (36-10) became a 3 time K-1 World Grand Prix Champion on Saturday (December 6th). He defeated Jerome Le Banner by TKO, Gokhan Saki by KO and Badr Hari by DQ to become the 2008 GP champion. Remy dominated the 1st round action and knocked down Hari. Badr lost his mind after a flurry attack that had Remy rocked and then took him to the floor. Unfortunately, Hari continued his assault with a stomp to the downed opponent and as the referee pulled him off he tried to punch and fight. An obvious disqualification and despicable act but Bonjasky still gets the win and becomes the champion again. Another great win for the 32 year old Netherland fighter.

MMA Melee 12/3/08

Diego Sanchez, who I always thought was gay, not that there's anything wrong with that, broke up with his girlfriend, UFC ring girl Ali Sonoma!! The unbelievably beautiful Ali announced on her MySpace page, "As some of you know I was in a almost 2 year relationship with UFC fighter Diego Sanchez, a man who proposed to me after 4 weeks of dating…Diego recently decided he can’t have both: he can’t have the relationship and be the champion. Sigh…and that’s ok…I am the kind of person I believe everything happens for a reason, due to God’s will and his plan for us." Obviously god's plan includes myself and Miss Sonoma in a future relationship. And this does prove Sanchez is gay, not that there is anything wrong with that, and an apparent idiot.

Fedor Emelianenko has opted out of his American Press Tour in order to prepare for his January battle with Andrei Arlovski. Fedor was apparently disappointed with his performance (Bronze Medal) at the recent Sambo competitions in Russia. Upon hearing the news of the “Last Emperor’s” return to focus, the “Pitbull” responded, “Aw shit! Now I’s taste pee pee.”

Matt Lindland’s scheduled brawl with newly crowned Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion Renato “Babalu” Sobral has been changed to Vitor Belfort because Affliction believes it will draw more interest. One has to wonder why, as Lindland has barely competed in MMA in the last few years and Belfort, who has a 3 fight winning streak at his new Middleweight, has not resembled the “Phenom” of his youth for quite some time. I picture a hug-fest but here’s hoping Babs lands a decent opponent for the show.

Jorge Gurgel, my wish is granted as you have been given the old heave ho from the UFC. The “Jiu-Jitsu Wizard” kept his fights on the feet (where he is adequate at best and a punching bag at worst) earning him a 3-4 record, a broken jaw, and MMA fans wondering where this fantastical Jiu-Jitsu that has been witnessed as much as the Yeti, is lurking? Jorge has already signed to Strikeforce and says he is no longer going to try and make fights exciting for the fans and fun for him, but he’ll use his “superior” Jiu-Jistu to gain wins and an eventual invitation back to the UFC.

Rameau Sokodjou has also received the boot from the UFC after dismal performances against Lyoto Machida & Luiz Cane while gaining his 1 win over an overweight yet undersized Nakamura. Look for the Team Quest prospect to learn to take a punch and gain some cardio in a smaller promotion as his name will get him signed. If he does not fix his obvious flaws (attack, attack more, if they don’t fall, get pummeled and quit) he will be the 2 hit wonder that shocked the world with upsets over Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Ricardo Arona.

Speaking of the BTT tank, Ricardo Arona having taken almost 2 years off is now ready to return to action in MMA for 2009. After taking care of family affairs and some much deserved rest, Arona (age 30) has established a gym near his home and the desire for combat competition as been refueled. Expect the "Brazilian Tiger" to pummel and punish upon his return. He is currently entertaining offers from multiple MMA companies.

Rematch city these days in MMA as Jens Pulver vs Uriah Faber II is in the works after the “California Kid’s” title loss to Mike Thomas Brown. The kid rode a 13 fight win streak and if ever anyone deserved an immediate rematch, he does. Still, it should be a good slugfest like the 1st one. The proposed fight between Chuck Liddell and Randy Couture for the 4th freaking time has everyone scratching their heads including the participants. Both men are expressing their displeasure at the idea and neither party has signed a contract. Hey, how about Chuck vs Anderson Silva like I said the 1st fucking time? Wanderlei Silva vs Quinton Jackson III is this December but unlike most “rubber” matches the “Axe Murderer” has won the 1st 2 meetings! Seems a bit silly. Why not resign the has-beens and have Ken Shamrock vs Tito Ortiz 4?

The WEC 37 is tomorrow and though MMAFO is not making predictions, you should tune in to Versus to watch the smaller weights throwdown. "Skinny guys fight until they're burger."
