MMAFO is embarrassed to report, that Phil "CM Punk" Brooks has joined the Roufusport Mixed Martial Arts Academy located at 321 N. 76th Street, Milwaukee, WI 53213.
The MMA squad is led by Duke Roufus (Head Coach). The wrestling coach is Ben Askren, Daniel Wanderley & Omar Choudhury (Jiu-Jitsu), Scott Cushman (Striking), & Anthony Pettis (MMA).
The Roufusport camp has been involved in controversy since kickboxer Dennis Munson Jr. died hours after making his debut for Duke Roufus' American Fighting Championship promotion in November. Then former students came out against the camp, & specifically Duke, including former coach & former UFC fighter Eric Schafer, & TUF 20 standout Rose Namajunas.
Schafer stated, "Duke Roufus is a bully, liar, & one of the worst people I have ever met. I have never been in a more toxic environment than when I was the head grappling coach & fighter at the gym. I saw teammate after teammate getting treated like shit. Guys being told to beat up lower level guys that were just trying to help out, UFC fighters being told to beat up other UFC level fighters so they would not come back, verbal abuse, violence, guys getting lied to about fights, etc. I have messages & conversations with almost everyone of his fighters from my days there; from his UFC stars to his coaching staff about how much they were mistreated."
The contentious last few months have led to bad publicity but CM Punk's arrival is destined to change the narrative. Roufusport is known for their amazing striking prowess which could come in handy for Brooks who has trained Jiu-Jitsu under Rener & Helio Gracie for some time.
