UFC on Fox 13 Results: Dos Santos & dos Anjos Win

Yes, this is actually JDS with hair!
MAIN CARD
Junior Dos Santos defeated Stipe Miocic via Unanimous Decision (48-47, 49-46, 49-46) in a grueling Main Event!

However you scored this bout, you got a show! These two Heavyweights just threw down as both took brutal shots and became bloody swollen messes by the end of the excruciating 25 minutes. MMAFO did score the bout for Miocic, but JDS did come on strong in the end. Its a case of scoring power shots versus volume. JDS has the biggest heart in all of MMA! “Cigano” just took another vicious beating and one hopes this won’t affect him in the future. Damn those were some punishing shots but JDS just would not die. Props.

This is one of those rare moments where a fighter’s stock actually goes up in a loss. We agreed with most pundits that Stipe would get blown out in this and he arguably won it. Impressive performance for Miocic and he has now proven that he belongs with the elite of the division. “Fight of the Night”

Rafael dos Anjos defeated Nate Diaz by Unanimous Decision (30-26, 30-26, 30-27).

Nate came in out of shape, missed weight, and then got his ass handed to him. Diaz blamed an injury in training camp but said he doesn’t pull out of fights, which is admirable, but he still doesn’t check leg kicks and everyone, especially RDA knows it. Anjos targeted that lead leg with frequency and Nate was limping early from the massive shots. RDA mixed in the takedowns when he felt like it and bloodied the younger Diaz with strikes. This wasn’t even close. Ever. If Nate isn’t serious about fighting, maybe he should think about doing something else. Tweeting a pic of you smoking a joint after the bout isn’t helping your case much. [MMAFO shakes head and walks away]

For RDA, he has earned the title shot twice now. The rumor is Khabib Nurmagomedov won’t be ready in time for a shot against Champion Anthony Pettis and the Brazilian will get the call. You heard it here 1st. Finally, Raf gets his title shot and don’t sleep on this guy. He could give “Showtime” fits. "Performance of the Night"

Alistair Overeem KO’d Stefan Struve with Punches at 4:13 of the 1st round to save his job.

“Ubereem” used an odd twisting takedown to put Struve on his butt against the fence, and unloaded power shots until Stefan went to sleep. It was as expected.

Matt Mitrione KO’d Gabriel Gonzaga via Punches at 1:59 of the 1st round for his 8th career knockout!

Mitrione rocked Gabe early and when Gonzaga tried to get his wits about him and get back to his feet, Matt unloaded a bomb from his hip that ruined “Napao.” As said above, that’s the 8th KO for Mitrione as he climbs the list with the fastest hands at Heavywight! “KO of the Night”

PRELIMS
Joanna Jedrzejczyk Upset Claudia Gadelha by Split Decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).

This was a close, ugly, back and forth fight. Whether it was Joanna grabbing the fence, or Gadelha punching well after the bell, this was not pretty to watch. We did have Claudia winning but it was close so we won’t bury the judges on this one. Jedrzejczyk gets the 1st crack at Carla Esparza’s title next.

John Moraga submitted Willie Gates via RNC at 4:06 of the last round.

The funny thing in this bout, was John thought he got hit in the pills and turned to complain to the referee. The ref said he didn’t see it and told the combatants to continue. Moraga tried to continue to argue and Gates, smartly, took the opportunity to punch his foe and take him down, almost for a submission. Lesson learned kids. Stop arguing and fight. Fights cannot stop fights if they are fouled. Only the referee can and someday someone is going to lose a fight in a big way because of such an action.

For his part, Moraga came back in the next couple rounds to dominate and eventually get the RNC tap. Nice recovery. "Submission of the Night"

Ben Saunders defeated Joe Riggs by Submission (Neck Injury) at 0:57 of the 1st round.

Not much happened here as Riggs shot himself in the foot again (get it? he shot himself in the leg for real a while back). Riggs went for a slam on “Killa-B” and injured his neck. Joe tapped and its over. Another win for Saunders, though prolly not the way he wanted. Still, a win’s a win and give it up for “Killa-B” 2-0 in his return to the UFC!

Drew Dober submitted Jamie Varner via RNC at 1:52 of the 1st round.

We said Varner had this unless he was a shell of his former self, and he was a shell of his former self as he promptly retired after the loss. So there’s that. Now Varner says he wants to start a fighter’s union. Best of luck.

Bryan Barberena TKO’d Joe Ellenberger with Strikes at 3:24 of the 3rd round.

Not much to say here but that Joe faded badly in this bout which might be because of his disease which is unfortunate.

David Michaud defeated Garett Whiteley by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27).

Yup, sure did.

Henry Cejudo defeated Dustin Kimura via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) for a long awaited but successful debut.

So “Cujo” finally made weight and just owned Kimura for the duration. Showing some kickboxing skills and not needing to employ his gold medal wrestling skills, it was a nice debut for the former Olympian. Now he claims he wants to return to Flyweight so expect the weight issues to return.

Ian Entwistle submitted Anthony Birchak by Heel Hook at 1:04 of the opening round.

This happened as well.

8-4 on the picks for an eh, result.
