UFC 185 Results: Two New Champions Crowned In Texas!

MMAFO went a weak 7-5 on the evening in a night where the favorites went 8-4. Ryan Benoit was the biggest underdog to turn the Upset but we did make bank on Joanna Jedrzejczyk. There were 8 finishes in 12 fights and 2 titles changed hands.

MAIN CARD (PPV) Results
Rafael dos Anjos defeated Anthony Pettis via Unanimous Decision (50-45, 50-45, 50-45) in a dominant performance to become the new UFC Lightweight Champion!

RDA straight whooped the now former champ’s ass in a 5 round beatdown. Pettis got caught with a left hand that rocked and swelled his eye immediately in the Main Event. From there, RDA fed Tony a steady diet of left hands showcasing not only his power advantage but a surprising speed advantage as well. RDA mixed things up as the fight went along landed 9 of 10 takedowns for which Anthony had no answer. RDA passed Pettis’ guard 5 times and took Tony’s back on 3 occasions.

Anthony’s inadequate wrestling skills reared its ugly head once again as he looked trapped on bottom and RDA moved as he pleased while delivering punishment. This was an Upset but not as unlikely as oddsmakers stated. RDA has now won 9 of his last 10 fights and has shown vast improvement over at King’s MMA under legendary coach Rafael Cordiero. “Fight of the Night”

* Dana White stated after the fight that the winner of Donald Cerrone and Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 187 will likely get the next shot at RDA. Pettis, has some work to do.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk TKO’d Carla Esparza with Punches at 4:17 of the 2nd round to become the new and 2nd ever UFC Strawweight Champion!

The female Nick Diaz battered Esparza denying almost every takedown attempt and crushing Carla with left jabs and stinging accurate right hands. Esparza was knocked into the cage wall in the 2nd round and Jedrzejczyk unloaded with a flurry of punches that caused a halt to the action as Carla wilted to the floor. “Performance of the Night”

A very impressive performance for the still undefeated Joanna who is now the 1st Polish fighter to win a UFC title!

Johny Hendricks defeated Matt Brown via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

“Bigg Rigg” took care of business busting up Brown with strikes and then taking him to wrestling school for 3 rounds. Matt was hardly in the fight and while Hendricks was unhappy with his performance, he dominated and put himself back in line to reclaim the Welterweight title.

Alistair Overeem defeated Roy Nelson by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

This was the best “Ubereem” we have seen in the UFC. Alistair kept distance wisely protecting his chin while moving in with amazing knees to the body and head of “Big Country.” Nelson hurt and even dropped Overeem but the now Jackson-Winkeljohn fighter popped right back up to his feet and continued the game plan. Roy took a heroic beating but the decision was easy to call.

Now the “Demolition Man” claims he wants JDS which is prolly not the best idea.

Henry Cejudo defeated Chris Cariaso via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) in a route.

As expected, “Mr. Peepers” overwhelmed Cariaso on the mat treating him like a kid brother for 15 minutes. Impressive stuff from “Mango” but he’ll need to continue to make weight and fight a legit Top 5 fighter to prove he is a challenge for “Mighty Mouse.”

FX Prelim Results
Ross Pearson KO’d Sam Stout with Punches at 1:33 of the 2nd round.

That, is the Ross Pearson we at MMAFO have come to know and love. Properly using angles and timing that striking just right to floor Stout. Sam’s days are numbered but it was very nice to see bad luck Pearson get some shine. “KO of the Night”

Elias Theodorou TKO’d a hapless Roger Narvaez via Strikes at 4:07 of the 2nd round.

Elias was easily the better fighter but he is an average Middleweight at best. Don’t get your hopes up for this guy.

Beneil Dariush Submitted Daron Cruickshank by RNC at 2:48 of the 2nd round in a scintillating performance!

Beneil styled on Cruickshank all night long. Whether it was the tremendous striking improvements or the continued stellar Jiu-Jitsu skills, Dariush controlled the fight in every facet. Beneil is really impressing and could truly make some noise at Lightweight. King’s MMA is riding high this night. “Submission of the Night”

Jared Rosholt TKO’d Josh Copeland via Punches at 3:12 of the final round in the “battle of the jiggles.”

Yup, it was as terrible as expected. We’re done here.

UFC Fight Pass Prelim Results
Ryan Benoit TKO’d Sergio Pettis with Strikes at 1:34 of the 2nd round.

It was a bad night for the Pettis brothers in general but lil’ Sergio has serious chin issues. Benoit punished the kid in a fight built for the younger Pettis to win. Its not looking good for the ahem, “Phenom.”

Joseph Duffy TKO’d Jake Lindsey via Punches at 1:47 of the very 1st round in a spectacular debut.

Okay folks, pay attention to this Irishman. He is known as the guy to defeat Conor McGregor and Norman Parke but he is legit as they come. The guy is based in the ground game but his striking, as shown this evening, has vaulted him into another level. “Irish Joe” is one to watch and he claims he is moving down to Featherweight and coming after the “Notorious” one again.

Germaine de Randamie TKO’d Larissa Pacheco with Punches at 2:02 of the 2nd round.

Yeesh. Neither of these women are UFC ready but Larissa is definitely gone.
