The MMA Melee: Curses, Cyborgs, and Cash

The Cleveland Curse

"The Drive," "The Fumble," and "The Shot." Cleveland sports teams have become synonymous with failure and have not secured a professional sports championship in 52 years. Stipe Miocic ended the drought with a single punch and the press are not treating this as the big accomplishment it truly is.

The Heavyweight Curse

Bas Rutten wins the belt in 1999 but injures his back and retires before ever defending it.

Kevin Randleman slips on pipes backstage and bonks his head before his very 1st title defense. He is the 1st champ to be knocked out before a title fight.

Frank Mir is hit by a goddamn SUV on his motorcycle breaking his leg in twain. Its a long road back.

Josh Barnett wins the belt in 2002 and tests positive for PED's and then leaves the UFC for 11 years.

Ricco Rodriguez; drugs.

Brock Lesnar gets rare diverticulitis disease. Then gets his butthole surgeried on and retires.

Cain Velasquez becomes a brittle man of glass.

Aaaand nobody, has defended the damn gold more than twice.

The girl got jokes.
Cyborg versus Rowdy Ronda

Cristiane "Cyborg" Justino (16-1-1) finally made her successful UFC debut and all anyone wants to talk about is "why didn't see call out Ronda?" and, "is she going to 135?"

The answer is NO! No goddamn it, stop asking. The woman simply cannot fucking make the weight class. End of discussion. Wanting her to make Bantam isn't going to change the physiology of her body. It is unhealthy for her and she has said multiple times no. Let this go. If its so goddamn important to get her to fight the likes of Miesha Tate, Holly Holm, or Ronda Rousey should she ever return, then make a catchweight bout. When have you ever, we mean EVER, heard of a champion going down in weight to face competition? Answer, fucking NEVER! Champions always fight up in weight so why won't the MMA world let this little scenario go? Its not going to happen.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with using "Cyborg" occasionally on UFC shows or having her defend the Invicta title on a UFC show. Nothing wrong with it. Its something different that will bring eyes to both promotions and everybody wins. Hooray problem solved so we can never speak of this again. Great.

As for the why not call out Ronda shit, why should she? It was her moment in her hometown of Curitiba, Brazil. Why should she take her homecoming celebration and place the focus back on the petulant and perhaps retired "Queen of the B Movie?" Its "Cyborg's" time and she should be allowed to bask in it with all of her people. There is plenty of time to never make this "super-fight" with Rousey that is never going to happen.

$Notorious Money$

The Conor McGregor versus Floyd Mayweather thing is bullshit people. Those two guys are fucking with you! McGregor is under contract with Zuffa. The UFC would have to allow Conor to have the boxing match and get a cut of the money. Considering how little Floyd wants to share with his fellow professional boxers, do you really believe there would be enough cash to feed Conor, Floyd, and the UFC? Nope. This is hype and the idiot fans are falling for it.

Bad Blood Bellator

"Ill" Will Brooks the Bellator Lightweight Champion was released from the promotion and stripped of his belt. Brooks has been publicly lashing out at the company and with his contract expiring in 4 months, Bellator President Scott Coker knew they weren't going to re-sign the fighter, so its just easier to cut him and move on. Now Will can negotiate with the UFC but he's lost his bargaining power. Kinda of the best way for Bellator to save face in the situation and with Benson Henderson, Michael Chandler, Josh Thomson, Saad Awad, Patricky Freire, and David Rickels, Bellator will be fine.

Vitaly Minakov was also stripped of his Bellator Heavyweight title and booted from the company. The undefeated big Russian had not competed for Bellator since 2014 but had won 3 bouts since in his homeland. Yet another unhappy contract camper but unfortunately for Bellator, their Heavyweight roster isn't nearly as strong as their Lightweights. Before you look for Vitaly on the UFC roster, keep in mind Fedor Emelianenko is competing in Rizin and wants to "pass the torch" to a fellow countryman.
