UFC 198 Results: Miocic Claims The Title & Werdum's Head

Main Card Results:

Stipe Miocic KO'd Fabricio Werdum with a single punch at 2:47 of the opening round to become the new UFC Heavyweight Champion!

The UFC Heavyweight curse continues as no title holder has ever defended the strap more than once!

A very aggressive Werdum came out firing and began to chase Miocic around the cage until Stipe threw a short right hook that wasted Fabricio into unconsciousness. It was epic and just like that and MMAFO successfully predicted yet another new Upset champion! Yup, its all about us. Congratulations to Stipe Miocic as well as something good happened to the sports deprived Cleveland (the Cavs aren't going to win shit). "KO of the Night"

* Next up for Miocic should be Alistair Overeem should the big boy belt be defended more than once a damn year.

** Anyone else notice that Stipe looks and sounds like Chuck Liddell? Seriously, put a mow hawk on the guy and they're brothers. Its weird.

Ronald Souza TKO'd Vitor Belfort via punches & elbows at 4:38 of the 1st round.

"Jacare" took down, mounted, and beat the Jeezus out of Belfort and it was glorious! Once in mount, Souza dropped elbows cutting up Vitor and bringing the blood. Then it was just common G&P and Belfort flopped around like a beached tuna having an epileptic seizure.

* "Jacare" should get the winner of the Luke Rockhold versus Chris Weidman rematch for the title next.

** Vitor should go fuck himself.

Cristiane Justino TKO'd Leslie Smith with a melee of punches at 1:21 of the initial round.

"Cyborg" be "Cyborg" just beating the hell outta women as always. The stop may have been a tad quick (as Leslie vehemently complained) but when dealing with the killer Justino, better safe than dead.

Maurico Rua defeated Corey Anderson by Split Decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28).

Despite how anyone scored the fight at home, there was little doubt that "Shogun" would get the nod in Curitiba. Anderson was doing well until he got caught with a big punch and almost finished at the end of the opening round. Again in the 2nd, Anderson was winning the war until he was dropped (though not hurt as badly as in the 1st) at the end of the 2nd round. Corey was able to easily control the final round with takedowns but its a courageous man that would pick against "Shogun" in Brazil.

Bryan Barberena defeated Warlley Alves by Unanimous Decision (29-28 3x).

Again, a bit of a shaky decision from the Brazilian judges but it was a close fight. Alves was in the lead for the 1st couple of rounds but slowed significantly (as always) while Barberena came on strong late. Eh, its a lesson learned for Warley and another Upset for Bryan.

FS1 Prelims Results:

Demian Maia submitted Matt Brown via rear naked choke at 4:31 of the 3rd round.

Maia shot in with a quick and beautifully timed single-leg takedown and poor Brown was unable to escape for more than a few seconds. More of the same in the 2nd and 3rd until Demian snuck in the arm and Matt's eyes went wide in horror. Brown tried to fight but was forced to tap with the arm across his throat. "Submission of the Night"

* Demian was solid and just owned Matt the entire fight. Maia should get the winner of Johny Hendricks versus Kelvin Gastelum or possibly a rematch with Neil Magny.

* Matt Brown was attacked on his way to the cage by 3 different fans after weighing in backwards and flipping off the crowd. Ballsy for sure but not the smartest move in Brazil.

** Mr. Brown was also attacked by former Jiu-Jitsu coach Rodrigo Botti who was subdued by Matt's team. Not the best weekend for Brown but he's making a reputation at the very least.

Thiago Santos KO'd Nate Marquardt with punches at 3:39 of the very 1st round.

Santos obliterated Marquardt who should have retired long ago. Nice highlight reel win for Thiago.

Francisco Trinaldo defeated Yancy Mederios by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 29-26, 30-26).

Well, this turned into a fun little scrap. Trinaldo and Medeiros threw down and Yancy was almost finished in the 3rd but the guy has heart for days. This was great and we recommend you watch if'n you haven't yet. "Fight of the Night"

John Lineker defeated Rob Font by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-26, 29-28).

Lineker tee'd off whenever he chose but Font has potential for sure. The biggest news was John made weight so welcome to the rankings. Try to make it a habit.

Fight Pass Prelims Results:

Antonio Rogerio Nogueria TKO'd Patrick Cummins via punches at 4:52 of the 1st round in a heroic homecoming.

Holy crap! Cummins was shooting from a mile away and the old boxer made him pay for it. "Lil Nog" put his left hand to use battering Patrick time and again before the referee mercifully halted the assault against the cage. Cummins just gets hit too much and how about "Minotouro" turning back time yet again? A feel good moment for all in Brazil.

Sergio Moraes versus Luan Chagas was ruled a Split Draw  (29-28, 28-29, 28-28).

Eck. Moraes looked just terrible and we have no explanation for why. Chagas brought his game for his debut and we have the rare and unfulfilling split draw.

Renato Carneiro defeated Zubaira Tukhugov by Split Decision (28-29, 29-28 2x).

8-3-1 on the picks.
