2018 MMAFO World MMA Awards


Male Fighter of the Year:
Daniel Cormier

"DC" successfully defended his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship by TKOing Volkan Oezdemir at UFC 220 in 2:00. 

Next, the AKA leader went up in weight to knockout Stipe Miocic for the UFC Heavyweight Championship in a single round to become the "Champ Champ." Then, "The Daddest Man on the Planet" defended the big heavy strap submitting Derrick Lewis in the 2nd round to cap off one of the most successful years of all time.

Female Fighter of the Year:
Amanda Nunes (2)

The "Lioness" TKO'd Raquel Pennington in a one sided beating at UFC 224 to defend her UFC Women's Bantamweight Championship for the 3rd time!
Then ATT's killer moved up in weight and met the feared Cris Justino at UFC 232. There the Brazilian knocked out "Cyborg" in 0:51 to become the Women's UFC Featherweight Championship! Now Nunes is the undisputed Greatest Of All Time in women's MMA!

Coach of the Year:
Javier Mendes

The founder of AKA and head coach had a very successful year and wins the award for the 1st time.



Gym of the Year:
American Kickboxing Academy

The San Jose, California school claims their 1st Gym title. Represented by UFC Heavyweight/ Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier, UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmogomedov, PFL Welterweight Champion Jon Fitch, the up and coming Justin Willis, and they cut the dead weight that is Luke Rockhold.

Fight of the Year:
Dustin Poirier versus Justin Gaethje

KO of the Year:
Mandel Nallo
knocks out Carrington Banks 
at Bellator 207

Submission of the Year:

threw a last second blind back elbow knocking out Chan Sung Jung in a fight he was badly losing on the scorecards to snatch a highlight victory at UFC Fight Night 139.


Most Improved Fighter:
Anthony Smith

"Lionheart" began the year in a loss to Thiago Santos, but then he moved up in weight to 205 and defeated Rashad Evans (by KO), Mauricio Rua (by KO), and Volkan Oezdemir (by RNC). Smith also earned the attention of fans and has established a reputation as a down to earth guy who is well spoken genuine.



Breakthrough Fighter of the Year:
Israel Adesanya 

Prospect of the Year:
Aaron Pico

The 22 year old won 3 bouts in Bellator and none made it out of the 1st round. The wrestling superstar has added and impressive striking resume to his young career and the sky is the limit.

Upset of the Year:
Amanda Nunes

Rivalry of the Year:
Conor McGregor versus Khabib Nurmagomedov

Ireland versus Russia. "Notorious" versus "The Eagle."
Things somewhat began in November of 2016 when McGregor and Nurmagomedov got into a shouting match backstage at UFC 205. Then, in April of 2018 a video surfaced showing Khabib and his crew confronting Artem Lobov. Conor become enraged at the treatment of his bestie and McGregor and his gang arrived at the Barclay Center, attacking the shuttle bus that was transporting the fighters. The Irish pounded on the bus and Conor attacked throwing a dolly into the window shattering it creating a giant controversy. Things were temporarily settled when Khabib finally got his shot at UFC 229 as be beat the brakes off of "Mystic Mac" to defend his belt. Things are not likely over.

Like there was any doubt. "Bones" returned from his 3rd, fucking 3rd suspension (which should have been 4 years) and promptly failed in 4 separate tests with 3 being initially covered up. Now Jon would like us to believe that he'll just have traces of Turnabol in his system for all time and it's apparently fine to fight with illegal drugs in your system. Well done cunt.
